Welcome to The Primitive Palate! My name is Sarah and I am the 33 year old writer & recipe developer behind this blog. Thanks for visiting! I am starting to think I should have called this blog Things I Cook My Husband For Dinner. That is where I get most of my inspiration. This blog started out Paleo, but has transformed into a ketogenic/low carb recipe blog. I just found that following a Paleo Diet wasn’t for me, I ended up eating tons of fruit and making “Paleo” waffles, cakes and treats. In the end, sugar is sugar and I wasn’t losing any weight. 


In addition to cooking, I love to take pictures and I love to write. Starting a food blog was inevitable for me. This is just a simple way for me to share what I make at home with friends, family and anyone interested in the Low Carb lifestyle.

About Sarah & Alex

We met while Alex was stationed at Fort Eustis in Virginia working as a journalist for the U.S. Army. We actually met through a dating site! I knew the first time that I kissed him, this was the man I was going to marry. I was just finishing up culinary/pastry school and the 3 year apprenticeship I did with the chefs at The Willamsburg Inn & Lodge in historic Colonial Williamsburg. Only after a few months we were engaged, then married and then being stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany!

023Alex is the main reason that I have taken steps to live a healthy and active lifestyle. He has completely transformed himself through diet and exercise and now it’s my turn!


Right now our family includes us, a little guy named Axel & his tiny lady, Rosie.

Currently Alex is working as a journalist here in Germany. Sarah works as a pastry artist, making custom specialty cakes, wedding cakes and cupcakes (hardest job ever for someone eating healthy!).


So we have officially moved from Germany to North Carolina! Fort Bragg/Fayetteville to be exact! The hubby is now a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne and I couldn’t be more proud of him!

Also, we have a new addition to our family! Little Sebastian! Born in late December ❤
